THE LOVE OF GOD IS NOT ONLY GENEROUS BUT ALSO CONSTRAINING

The love of God is not only shoreless in giving, limitless in capacity to accommodate and inexhaustibly generous. The love of God also constrains (2 Corinthians 5:14).

This is instructive because a bond servant of Jesus Christ is one who responds to the love of God by loving God back through the extreme commitment of a life time of slavery under Jesus Christ. Nothing is contrived, everything flows organically – it is a love affair between the God-King and the believer-servant.

So as much as the love of God makes all grace abound to the believer, it also teaches the believer restraint. This is why though the believer has access to the heavy resources of God’s grace, they only deploy them at God’s behest. This is so that excess is balanced by recess. Though through the strength of Christ, the believer CAN do all things but that does not mean they SHOULD do all things – power is balanced with authority.

Any operation that is without an elaborate system of restraint is doomed to implode, collapse and fail. Cars have brakes, doors have hinges, ships have rudders, airplanes have brakes and the Almighty God has His word by which He Himself is restrained.

A strong proof that a minister serves at the pleasure of Christ is the palpable constraint of God’s love in their words and deeds.

O minister of our dear Lord Jesus Christ, what are the guard rails and systems of restraint by which your life and ministry are righteously delineated? For instance, do you have accountable relationships that you defer to or do you just run loose like a bullet from an accidental discharge of a fire arm?
